Dredgers in the marine industry
Monitoring of dredging vessels
- Flowmeters for dredging slurries
- Electronic fuel consumption monitoring and management
- Ballast water monitoring
A dredger is a watercraft that has special equipment for dredging ports, estuaries or bays. The two most successful dredging vessel designs are the cutter suction dredgers (CSD) and trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD). Both use large pumps and suction pipes to move the slurry mixture into and out of storage tanks on-board. In most cases operators need to document how much material they have moved. The slurry is highly abrasive and production speed often high, which requires heavy duty instruments.
Over many years KROHNE has gained considerable experience in providing electromagnetic flowmeters for dredging applications. OPTIFLUX 4000, with velocity calibration is the preferred flow meter for this duty. The meters are obstructionless, full bore in design, with abrasion resistant liners, and carry most of the relevant marine type approvals (such as DNV-GL, KR, BV).
The KROHNE EcoMATE™ system and Coriolis mass flowmeters offer electronic fuel management solutions that enable the crew and ship owner to keep track of and report on both fuel consumption and all corresponding emissions, in accordance with the new regulations from the EU and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). EcoMATE™ also allows separate monitoring of any bunkering operations.
KROHNE also manufacture a wide range of electromagnetic flowmeters suitable for other flow instrumentation on board, such as in ballast water treatment systems, exhaust gas cleaners (scrubbers) water/oil separators or fresh water production systems.
